Default GS300 hood won't stay shut

Opened the hood yesterday to check the oil and now the thing won't stay shut. How can I tell if it's the actual latch or the cable? When I push a screwdriver down on the latch, it pushes down but immediately flips back up. It doesn't lock.

Having the exact same problem, it is annoying and I don't want to have the hood opened through the cold with snow/rain coming. Any help/suggestions or temp fix would be great!

I had this problem when I bought my GS. Lube usually helps, but I just ended up replacing mine as new ones aren't very expensive.

I had this problem when I bought mine, the cable was bad and apparently it's pretty common on our cars, I could get it to shut by sticking a screw driver in the latch and pushing it down but eventually had to replace

Might be the cable I had the same issue. Just pull on the cable by hand it should release the latch. Works for me. Or buy a new cable and be done with it.

I get it working when I pull on the lever inside the car.
It has helped everytime I've had the problem.

Take it off, WD40 it down, tap it against the ground go remove any crud, repeat 2-3x, reinstall. Did this to mine and haven't had any issues since.

I have a 99 gs300 and had that problem. I used brake cleaner spray and wiped the gunk off and I used kroil. You can use any lubricant spray and should be fine. If that doesn't work I would replace it. Not to much money and we'll worth it.

Had this problem and learned that lubing the cable is only a temp fix... Best bet is to change the cable and call it a day...

I lubed the lock, lubed under the lock where the cable connects and then flicked the lever under the dash a few times and it worked, for now anyways.
