Default 2001 GS300 totaled!

Totally bummed, my black 2001 GS300 was hit in the front right fender by someone making a left turn from the right lane (going same direction, must have been in her blind spot). Anyway enough impact to push the hood into the left fender, some frame damage and it will cost over $10K to fix so the insurance company said it will be a total loss. I haven't got the official settlement yet, they said it goes to an unbiased 3rd party to determine the value (how can it be unbiased when they're paying the bills?). I'm sure it will be way under what it was worth to me, it was in extremely good condition. My question is what to do with the car after it is totaled. Do I buy it back for $500 or just let them haul it away? Probably too much damage to really fix but the remaining undamaged parts are probably worth something to somebody. I've been told I should part it out but that's probably not worth the time. Anyone with similar experience?

A month ago my 02 SportDesign was totalled. ( A graphite gray pearl/black interior beauty). I had just put $4000 into it in the last year, including $2000 in springs, shocks and other suspension upgrades TWO WEEKS before the accident. I'd had it since new and loved it.

The car had 116K on it, with perfect interior and a soso exterior. They said only tire and engine replacement count toward value and gave me $8600. I think I would have gotten the same amount no matter the upgrades. Probably a fair price, just bad timing.

The good news is I just got a nice Black/Black GS430 2004 this week.

Monetary value cannot compensate for time, money, and love you put in the vehicle. But hey, you did get something. Although not enough in my opinion. But for 500 bucks, id buy it back just for parts or experience. Do as you wish.

I had something similar some time ago where the damage looked really bad but deep down it wasnt much just cosmetic mainly but insurance still said total loss so I bought the car back for 800 $ took it to a shop they said minor to no frame damage was done replaced the arm and tie rod aligned it painted some parts I bought off craigslist to fix cosmetic drove the car for 3yrs with no problems. I was to attached to my car and did not want to let it go just cause some stupid kid was to busy sucking on nos ballons and passed out and rammed me
