Question How do i explain to the shops on getting my silver rims filed down??

Im putting the Blizzaks on today. Currently the silver rims have been making my tires leak. I have gone in and paid to fix the leaks but they "come undone' again and its just a waste of money.

i was told that you get the shop to file down? the rims so that they wont cut into the tires. I need to know exactly what to say so that they understand what I am talking about.

Im assuming im not the only on who has this problem..

hmm.. not too familiar with "filing down" the wheel itself. but are the tires new or used? it may be your tire

Default im lost

I dont know. The car is 8 years old. The rims im assuming are the same. The tires i bought are like new. So i dont want to start putting air in these ones. My issue is the rims NOT the brand new tires i got.

The guy at curtis tire says that he sees this all the time on these rims.
I had posted before and they say something about painting the inside??
if I dont file them down then what is this beading business. I dont even understand what filing down means.

so im assuming based off what youre trying to say.. the rim's paint, specifically where the bead rest, isnt 100% flat.. proly flaking? which causes air to leak?

Well had it done. Cost about 100 to put the tires on balance. He said they did some filing down but he said they didnt need to much whatever that meant. I said to him that I was putting air in them like 3 times a week so he says they shouldnt do that anymore. Maybe once a year.Who knows Its a wait and see. The wheels are the really shiny chromes. I dont see any flaking. I do know that Im riding up higher with these. They are definately bigger than what I had on before.
But they look good.

Plus I was told that I should get ALL wheels an alighnment. Not just the front two. I didnt see anything wrong except the front on the old tire was not even tread. I was going to get a wheel alignment but now I dont know. I dont think I need all the tires done.

you should do an alignment for all 4 wheels, why would you do the front and not the back. Uneven wear on the wheel tread means something is wrong with your alignment, so its going to make your new tires wear out faster.

you shouldn't cheap out doing an alignment and risk wearing out your new tires prematurely

I had the alignnment done on all 4. It was well worth it.

Just had similar incident this past week. I have the 17" silver OEM wheels on my 01' GS430. Anyhow, I installed 4 brand new Bridgestone Fuzion tires last Tuesday. One tire kept losing air. So I kept pumping it everyday until I got tired of it! Lol... So I took it in to my local Firestone shop, who mounted them, to get it repaired. So the verdict was: "sir we believe you had corrosion on the rim, we patched things up and your good to go!". Lol I hope so. If those silver wheels keep giving me grief, ima just a set of 4 new chrome 17" OEM Lexus wheels! Good luck with everything my friend.
