Default No Master Key

Im new to this but liked what I saw in responses. I have a 2002 GS300 and my friend broke and then lost one of my keys then my daughter lost the other master key. All I have is the Vallet key. Do I have to go to the dealer to get a new key since I dont have a master key?

A local dealer won't be cheap. They will most likely tell you that since you do not already have an existing master key you have to get new keys and computer for the car (happened to me).

I recommend going to: http://lexus.sewellparts.com/accesso...2002/2809.html and getting a key from them. If you register on their website you will be able to use your screen name from here to get a discount on the key. They can cut it from your VIN providing you supply them with the appropriate documents. Then find a locksmith local that is capable of programming the key to the car. This is the route I took when I bought a new master key for my car. All in all I spent about $220 with getting the key and programming. The dealer wanted me to pay over $1200 for new keys and computer.

Good luck.

Yeah I am in the process of attacking this as well, I have had my GS for 5 years with just a valet key; about time for an upgrade...

Two different things going on here.

There's programming the key fob for opening the door locks. And there is programming the car to the key for the immobilizer feature.

Depends on the year for Toyota for which ones can and cannot be programmed without the master key.

Hardrvin did bring up a good point.

02 Legend, when you went to your local locksmith was this for programming the key FOB to lock and unlock your doors or was it for the immobilizer feature? I too have only a valet key and need to get a replacement master key.
