All I got was a valet key and a "fob" that looks like it used to be a key. Is going to the dealer for a new master key my only option or can a locksmith do one for me?

Go to the dealer with proof of ownership and they can do it for you.

 

Went to the dealer this morning. Cost me 105 bucks and they had to order it because they didn't have the machine that cuts them.

 

Your looking at roughly 350 without the transponder. I am not at all shocked you didn't get either master key because my two are broken. cheap plastic snaps where the key is molded into the plastic. Lexus really curious out on the key. My 99 ls400 had both original keys until I sold it this last March.

 

That makes sense. The remote I had was a key with the key part broke off. They took the guts and put it in the new key. I still had to get the dealer to cut the master key from the VIN since I didn't have one. I'll source another key from somewhere other than the dealer.
