Default Bc 272 cams on slightly modded gs300

My 01 gs300 currently has srt intake/ecu, top speed headers as current engine mods. I want to install bc 272 cams. What will I gain or lose by installing these before going na-t? Keep in mind I will be going na-t in about 6 months but want to swap out cams while upgrading to cometic headgasket. Thanks !!!

I could be remembering wrong but I believe Aadaamm had cams in his non-turbo engine build. Might wanna check his build threads.

I would consider 264s instead. With 272s, you will need upgraded valve springs and retainers. Unless you will be making huge power (which is unlikely because it sounds like you will stay on stock internals) then stick for 264s for NA and mild NA-T setups.

I wouldnt do the 272's with that set up, its overkill for your set up and may actually have a negative effect

I'm also interested since I'm going NA-t soon. So 264's good for stock internals? I'm just wanting 300-400 total JP with turbo. Nothing crazy.

I actually have gte pistons and rods going in also. Is it a must to upgrade springs and retainers w the 272's?

Philv, did you have to mod the pistons and rods prior to installing or is it pnp? Any gains?

I don't believe so. Im pretty sure they should go in without any modification. I'm looking for 400+ whp, so I'm going w the gte internals. I'm would like to do the install myself but I'm fairly new to building engines so I'll possibly have a shop do it.

I've done these plenty of times. The 264 will work with stock valve train as long as you're not revving it to high hell. Keep it under 7500rpm or so if you use the stock valve train, any higher and you risk floating. For the 272 cams, the lift is 1mm extra over stock. Under repetitive cycling, you will overheat the stock valve springs and possibly have a failure there. So with the 272, upgrading the valve springs is a necessity. Upgrading the retainers to titanium is optional. The stock GE pistons have a very narrow valve relief in the piston, so I would be concerned with the valve hitting the pistons on stock head gasket with the extra lift cams.
