Gauge Cluster
I am a newbie to the lexus game and I just purchased a 99 GS 300. When I was driving home I noticed the rpms were at 4,000 at 70mph and didn't think that was normal. It looks like it will not shift into over drive. All there other gears shift smooth and fine. I also noticed the gauge cluster has a M for m mode and i was wondering if the wrong gauge cluster would be causing it not to shift into over drive. Can anybody give me some advice.
Thanks

Be careful that the seller didn't switch the cluster. I went to look at a Sport Design today advertising 93k on the clock. Ran the carfax and found out the car had 208k last year. Thats twice, because I also called a guy in Dallas lastweek about another GS he advertised with 139k. Saw the original ad. from the previous owner two days before and the same car had 210k.

Did you put the shifter in D or M? If you put the shifter on M then you are driving 70mph in 4th gear therefore 4k RPM. I've seen many people drive their cars in 4th without ever realizing it when using the zig zag shifter.
You definitely have the wrong cluster for your car. The gear labeling on the cluster should match the shifter in the center. For your yr & model the correct shifter label is PRND32L.

try resetting ecu and check for dtc codes and hopefully not a mechanical issue if you are in drive and not m mode then ya your car shouldn't be that high mine on cruise at 75 mph is at ~2800rpm. Also if you're not in overdrive isn't there a warning light on your dash?
