Default Radio/ speaker issue in my 1998 lexus gs400 need help

i can provide more details if you ask ill be on once or twice a day.
so my problem is my sound system cant play any music to loud or it will cut out and sound like garbage(still has sound butt its playing just bits and peices of the song).it has the issue on radio and cd. i think its not getting enough power because rock music with bass cuts out at low volumes but my beatles music can be played 2-3 times as loud. its had the problem since i bought it in may. the guy has a amp and sub hooked up in back. i tried to see if that was the problem but shorted the amp when removing and then replacing the power wire to the amp. so that might or might not be the problem.(i dont know how to remove the amp power wire from the car no idea where it would be hooked into overall it has a sub hooked in back otherwise all stock i can turn on headlights ac and inside light and it doesnt seem to have power issues but the radio even when its all that on will cut out when playing rap or bassy music on low low levels. it plays louder when i turn the bass level down but i shouldnt have to have 0 bass to listen at 1/4 max volume. any ideas where could i get this issue checked out for free or cheap (under $50) btw its the stock premium sound system.

might need a capasitor but I doubt it, a good tell is if your lights dim when the bass hits. I think that your factory amp is going out, hence the reason you only have sound sometimes. To disconnect the power to the amp/subs you should look at your battery in the engine bay, there should be a large power line that goes to the amp, disconnect that and see if your problem continues. IF it does then it points towards your factory amp or head unit, another thing to check is the high/low converter he is probably using to get the signal for the amp since you are running the stock head unit, however this should only effect your aftermarket amp/base.

do you know how you could tell if its the head unit or factory amp. and roughly how much it costs to get them replaced with factory or after market parts
