A/C Blows Cool Not Cold
I have a 1998 Gs400 (200,00k)
The a/c turns on, but only blows cool air. After driving around in 100+ degrees here in Texas the cool air has no effect. I read in a thread from 2006 the guy changed only his condenser, and his a/c blew cold again. I tried adding freon, but that didn't work. After a quick 5 minute look a mechanic said I need a new compressor, but I'm not sure about that because my rear vents were not open when he checked.
Will changing the condenser solve my problem, or will I need a new compressor?
Any input is greatly appreciated.
Thanks. Spence

Well I sure hope you didn't really put "freon" in your ride! Your hvac system does not use freon, which is a name brand R12 refrigerant made by DuPont. You should be charging it with R134a, which is what you most likely did since you have to have a license to by R12 .......And yes a condenser would fix your A/C, if that's what is wrong with the system. If that isn't it, then no. Take it to a reputable repair establishment, and have them do a proper a/c service to it. If they are reputable they will charge you a smallish fee to hook up at least gauges to the system and do some diagnosing. It is an older vehicle. It very well may be low on refrigerant. And that's it.
