thanks for the info... running ver. 7.1 right now.. also tried the override procedure and it works, only problem is that it does not stay after the car has turn off..but the code is pretty simple to remember..

Press Menu
Press DVD
Top Left corner
Bottom Left corner
Top Left Corner
Bottom Left Corner
Bottom Right corner
press and hold the override button until turn green.

I bought my 02 GS430 last month and it still had Version 1 in it (the original disc). I downloaded version 10.1 and then found the override. It's a little annoying to do it every time if needed. The dealership I bought the car from when on the test drive I did the override and they offered me a job.

AWESOME. Thanks for this info! I downloaded 10.1 a few weeks ago, and just went out to the car and tried this, and it works! VERY COOL.

Download version 10.1 only as a backup for the legal version you purchased.

@Debonair - Isn't your GS a gen3 navi?!

http://lexus.sewellparts.com/data/nav2010cy.php

I want ver 10.1, but don't want to give up my ability to over-ride the system. Seems that ver 8.1 takes it away, and probably all subsequent versions. I read that 8.1 kills it, but am assuming that all subsequent versions also kill it.

Updated maps. That's the only difference I am aware of and the only reason I needed it.

Nope, I now have Gen 4. My Gen 2/3 unit died. A deceased 2004 Prius surrendered his Nav 4 unit to my car.

I have not tried the override since installing the new Gen 4 unit. I've read both ways about the defeat being available or not. Ill give it a go later today and let you know.

@Debonair, how is your experience with the Gen 4 system?

My gen 2 kicked the bucket over the weekend, after I decided to simply check the disc in the unit. Getting a bunch of read errors now. Got a gen 4 system from ebay.

i have the same setup abel has. i have been on a gen 4 for almost 2 years now, recently upgraded to the 10.1 disc...the gen 4 is a night and day difference to the gen 2/3 unit.

BTW i didnt lose the override and mines ALWAYS accessible to me
