Question Is there anything missing from my list?

Hi, I just bought a 2003 GS430 with 98k miles and I want to get it to great running shape. I have done some searching on this forum and I made a list of basic things Im going to do right away like changing the oil/filter, drain the transmission fluid and fill it with 2qts, drain and fill the coolant, replace the spark plugs, change air filter, change in cabin microfilter.

Im also going to do the 90k service right away which includes replacing the timing belt. I searched the topic on this forum and found out that it is also best to replace the water pump and thermostat at the same time with the timing belt. I found this kit online from FCPGroton for $275. http://www.fcpgroton.com/product-exe...ategory_id/203 Is this a good kit? How is the price and does it have all or most of the parts I need?

The kit includes the following items: OEM Reference #
Timing Belt - 13568-09070, Timing Belt Tensioner - 13540-50030, Timing Belt Idler Bearing - 13505-0F010 (Right), Timig Belt Ilder Bearing - 13503-50011 (Lower Leff) (13503-0F010),Water Pump - 16100-59275-83 (16100-59275),Thermostat - 90916-03100, Thermostat Gasket - 16346-50010, Cam Shaft Seal - 90311-71001 x 2 Pieces, Crank Shaft Seal - 90311-A0001 (Front). Guaranteed OEM Quality and Fitment with 1 Year Warranty

I also found this other kit for $399. http://www.globalautoparts.biz/ez-ca...0529/2/TBK1006

The kit includes:TBK1006 includes: timing belt, water pump, hydraulic tensioner, timing belt tensioner, timing belt idler, front crankshaft seal, camshaft seals, valve cover gaskets, spark plug seals, and valve cover bolt grommets. All components are premium quality, made in Japan.

Are all these parts necessary in this $399 kit? I also read that I should replace all dry belts. What other dry belts are there?

Where is the best place to buy good quality parts at a cheap price?

Please help me make a list of things I need so that I can order it and have it done so that I can get it to great shape. Any help/info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your time and help.

Buy your parts through Sewell Lexus We have a discount through them Everyone will say, "this is a Lexus, dont go cheap". Also, another good part to change are your ball joints and outer tie rods. Its another notorious part that fails on our car

It's an 01+, the ball joints and tie rods are pristine on this car I'm sure. I pulled both off my car with 105k miles on it a few weeks ago to inspect them, (with OEM replacement parts in hand) and they still looked brand new.

But anyway, OP, he's right about Sewell Lexus. I wouldn't buy from anywhere else.

Tell that to this guy, its an '03:

IIRC, average replacement is around 100k. You may just be right about that time. and you CANNOT go by looks. I pulled mine off and they 'looked' brand new, but when I moved the joint... It was crap! you shouldnt be able to move the joint very easily.

for a buck 20, its well worth to change as assurance, especially if you're planing on going low.

I bought AISIN timing belt kit from RockAuto.com for $160! It includes water pump, wp gaskets, both pulleys, timing belt and water bypass o-rings. By the way AISIN is the company that supplies Lexus and Toyota with whole bunch of components so in another words it's all original but without Lexus logo on it!

This kit you're about to buy has everything you need for the timing belt job except for thermostat (I would go OEM if i was you), its gasket (oem too) and tensioner (oem). You might also want to inspect your drive belt/serpentine belt to see if it needs replacement. Spark plugs and PCV valve would be next in line. Most likely you won't need crank or cam seals unless there is a leak (i would only go with oem on these too). Why are you getting valve cover gaskets?

lol idk. My car has 98k miles and I dont think it is leaking. I want to do everything I need to while we are in there working on it. I tried researching and I found a couple of lists. I just combine most of the things in the list. Any info/input from the experience CL guys would be appreciated.

If your valve covers don't leak then don't mess with them now, the same with hoses. I would just do the timing belt, filters, and plugs for now. Save your money for later

How do I check to see if the valve covers are leaking?
Can I tell if the upper radiator hose is in good shape by squeezing it? Is there any other way?
