Default GS Vs. Avalon. Similarities?

If I am not mistaken, the Avalon and GS are built on the same platform. True or false? I don’t have time to look into this as I am at work.

However, I did come across this today. Something faulty with the Avalon from 2000-2004. And since I have a 2000, it does make me wonder.

This something to look into, or does it not pertain to our cars?

Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., today announced that it intends to conduct a voluntary safety recall involving approximately 373,000 2000-2004 Model Year Toyota Avalons sold in the United States to address the possibility that the vehicle's steering lock bar could break under certain conditions. No other Toyota or Lexus vehicles are involved in this recall.

And a recall on the LX470

Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., today announced that Lexus intends to conduct a voluntary safety recall of approximately 39,000 2003-2007 Model Year LX 470 vehicles to address a steering shaft condition. No other Toyota or Lexus vehicles are involved in this safety recall.

I always believed that the Avalon and GS are cousins but I'm not certain. I did hear of the recall for the Avalon about a day ago and it does make me wonder if this may include the GS.

The Avalon is based on the Camry chassis except it's stretched a little. I believe it has nothing in common with the GS. Then again I had a 99 Avalon, not the 2k one so I'm not sure if that model was similar, but I would imagine the same principle applies.

The Avalon is a V6, FWD sedan. The GS is either an I6 or V8, RWD sedan.

This has been discussed.

Avalon is built in America off the stretched Camry platform. It is FWD.

GS is built in Japan on its own platform. It is RWD.

They are not related at all.
