Rattling issue
I have this rattling issue and cant figure out which part is bad.
When in cold start the rattle is very noticeable. The sound is like a ball rattling in a spray can. Its a sound of bad bearings. While sitting and rev to about 2k you can start to hear the rattling and then as you increase rpm the sound gets louder. When the engine is warm, the sound is only heard from 3k rpm and up.
Here is what I have done so far:
1. I removed the drive belt, started the car, and its quiet. No sound what so ever as I rev the engine. The moment I put the drive belt back it will rattle again.
2. Ive changed the A/C pulley. Just the pulley, nothing else. I remember when the AC is on the noise is gone, but when off it make that rattling noise. My first instinct was the AC pulley bearing is bad, so I change it to a more quite piece. Still no fix.
3. I then thought it was my power steering, so I changed the entire unit. Still no fix.
4. I also changed the drive belt tensioner pulley. Again, switched to a more quiet piece. Still no fix...unless I have two bad tensioner pulleys.
The sound is in front of engine and somewhere in the middle to the right of the engine. You can also hear the sound very clearly underneath the engine. I was starting to think it was timing belt tensioner, but when I removed the drive belt everything was quiet. That rules out the engine portion. The only thing left are the external pulleys on the drive belt.
Anyone have an idea what it could be? Is there more to the A/C to fix?

Oh man, totally forgot about this thread. Alternator is good. Im leaning toward my water pump bearings. I wiggle the water pump pulley and it moved slightly. Its a very small movement, but you can feel it. I did the same test with the water pump I recently purchased and its rock solid. I think its my water pump bearings starting to go out. I just need time to install pump and see what happens.
What do you guys think, is this my problem?
