Default eshift question

I was wondering, if you drive using e-shift, will it hurt your tranny?

Nope, doesn't hurt your tranny otherwise it wouldn't come with it from the factory. Apparantly, I heard that using eshift slightly firms shifts 2-5. I can't confirm this, but I don't know if it just me but when I use eshift that is what it feels like. If this is true in fact, technically it would prolong the life of the transmission (slightly if at all). Then again it could be all in my head .

No way, Lexus wouldn't give you enough control over the tranny to allow you to mess it up. You can't downshift if you're speed is too high. It won't even let you shift into 2nd if the car is cold. Upshifts are super slow. Downshifts are fun though. I've been driving in M-mode for like the last month, I usually use the shifting to hold the car like on downhills or to slow it down when pulling up to a light.

There is a protection system that doesn't allow you to do dumb things (like shift from 5th to 2nd), but you are still putting wear on your transmission when you do sudden downshift...say from 3rd to 2nd at 4000 rpm. If you beat on anything, its life decreases.

I would think it would use a lot of extra gas (downshifts, etc.) when in the higher RPMs longer.

lol off topic but, i think its funny how all the new cars talk about having this semi auto with manual paddle shifters when we got it back in 98 in the gs400 haha.

Well, I've had nothing done to my transmission except for a VB upgrade and it's held up from the last 8 years of use and two different lexus and still running strong. It was boosted on one of my old IS300 for roughly 30k miles, and then when I total the car on the track, I switched it over to the GS300 and have been using it on a weekly basis with no problem. The key to making your tranny live is to install a tranny cooler and change out the fluid every 8-10k miles. Drain and fill for the tranny fluid is no more than $12. Pretty cheap for me the way I see it.
