Lag and loss of power problem, Help! MAF?
I have a GS430 2001. During the past few months I have been experiencing a lag when I push the gas pedal under low RPM. Happens mostly when I am in town. Pushing the gas after the car has been standing in place, results in a drop in RPM, loss of power (significant) and a loud "thud" sound in the back of the car (sounds like by the exhaust area). I let go of the Gas and push it again harder, in which case the car drives fine. It keeps repeating itself every time I take my foot off the gas completely and press it again. Sometimes it doesn't do it. Mostly in town.
Mechanic says I need to change the MAF (after he cleaned it). Also, says to clean the fuel injectors.
Will it make a difference in putting a new maf as opposed to just cleaning it?
Also, is it necesary for me to clean the fuel injectors to fix the problem? He charges $120 for that job. I want to be sure that it will fix the problem before I do it.
What else can it be? any feedback is greatly appreciated. HELP!

It could be a multitude of different issues, is there a check engine light on? It could be the throttle position sensor, but typically that would trip the CEL. It could also possibly be carbon build up in the intake manifold, which is common on the 430's. Finally, the MAF may need to be replaced, but I would check the carbon build up first. Hope this helps

Remove the engine cover, then disconnect the air intake duct from the throttle body, get some BG intake cleaner and just spray all the carbon build up off. Make sure not to run the engine when doing this, you dont want that to go through your converters. Soak the throttle body with the cleaner, and wipe it off with a rag. That should be a good start, but you probably want to run the BG fuel system treatment as well....

Hi, thanks for the reply. Today, I cleaned off my throttle body with the throttle body cleaner.
When you said to spray all the carbon build up off, did you mean the throttle body or the actual intake or intake manifold?
Also, will the throttle body cleaner do the job, or BG intake cleaner is something different?

throttle body spray is to improve your idle and throttle response, it loosens up the build up off of the butterfly for a smooth operation. the BG treatment also known as bg44k in a subaru dealership, this is what they use to clean up the buildup inside your crankcase/valves/remove water in your gas tank/ intake port cleaner & a few other goodies. Seafoam is very similar to bg44k as well but different people have their opinions on these products. some claim its a tuneup in a bottle and some had a end to their engines after using so, it all depends on the condition your engine originally was in, sometimes removing that gunk might expose a problem that gunk was originally hiding. but if your engine was good from the start then it wouldl be grand for your motor..

whenever my throttle response starts to lag i just reset my ecu and problem solved... never sleep on the idea that just disconnecting your negative battery terminal for 30 mins can fix this problem.
