Default Rear Bumper Molding

I just noticed that the molding on the rear bumper either isn't there or is a non-chrome version. There is a light gray rubber strip. Does the chrome molding snap onto this rubber strip? The rest of the molding on the car is chrome.

It is plastic chrome and it has faded over the years. You can polish it some with plastic polish or remove strip and replace.

Thanks for the reply... The strip that is there is not faded plastic chrome. It is a soft rubber light gray strip. I'm not sure if the chrome molding goes on top of this rubber strip or replaces it. Also, do you know if the molding snaps on or does it use double-sided tape?

My front bumper is chrome... Just my rear bumper is gray, and it's real soft rubber. Not hard plastic as one would expect.

To the OP, unless someone had it replaced with some cheap off brand molding, which I've never heard of happening, the second poster is correct. Mine has faded from time to time and I've brought it back to shine with the polish. I know it looks gray, but it will work, just try it. I've owned two different GS' and it has happened to both.

What brand of plastic polish did you use and where do they sell it?

It sounds like the chrome layer is gone and all that's left is the part that sticks it to the car. Did you buy the car used? As far as I know all the bumper moldings are chrome and can be polished up if it starts getting grey. If the chrome layer is gone like you say you can order a new one from the dealer. I went through Park Place in Grapevine it was like $65 and it comes with the sticky tape already on it. Just remove and clean what's left of your old strip and slap in the new. Hope this helps.

Try some Scratch-X. I used it on my front and rear chrome trim and it makes it look shiny and new again.

Yes, I just bout it a few weeks ago. I think I will order new molding since the cost is reasonable. Thanks for the reply!
