Default Removing Center Console

Need to remove the center console. The one where the clock and center vent is located. My ML center speaker is buzzing and is driving me crazy. I want to either replace the center ML speaker or disable it for now. I tried to remove the grill but it would not budge. I suspect there maybe something holding it down inside. By removing the piece where the clock and center vent is located I hope to see if anything is holding the grill down. Hope someone can give some tips on the removal or if available pictures would be better.

Banana's DIY guide says to wrap a small flathead in masking tape and wedge it out. Personally, I use a small hook tool from Wally World and slide it into the gap, rotate it, then pull. I do it in more than one spot because there are several clips holding it in. GL and take your time.

Yeah, it's not too hard, but like Lexbox said, it's easier if you use more than one tool to pop it out. Basically, you want to take a couple of small flathead screwdrivers, wrap them in electrical tape, and wedge them in the top two corners. Gently pry the screwdrivers, and you will exert enough pressure to release the retaining clips and the vent will just pop right out. I've done it several times. Just take your time and be gentle.

Thanks for the quick response. I lost the link to BananaGS website and knew someone had the link. From the look of the picture there doesn't seem to be a good access to the center dash where the ML center speaker is located. Will try this weekend anyway.

Funny, I gave similar advice to Hameed today on the phone. While we were discussing it, his son (with small hands) was able to reach his fingers into the vent and pull it back just enough to be able to pull it out the rest of the way from the sides.

I guess this is the first time I will say " Kids, do attempt to try this at home".
