1999 gs400 in service need advice plz
My dads 99 gs400 is in service. The dealer called me to give me prognosis and prices
1. Valve gaskets leaking 1000$
2. 3 bad door lock actuators 1000$
3. Cel was on they say all vacum hoses are roted and crumbling 8 hoses in total $550
Do these prices sound right?

The only thing worst than a butt ***** is one without lube. That's what that dealership is giving you (lol).
If you can drive it up to Jersey I'll do it for half the price and leave a Hershey Kiss on your pillow when I'm done.
Seriously, either find another dealer or give a shout out the the Florida GS crew. Most of us can do those repairs (3.5 on a 0-10 scale) in our sleep.

Can be done for around 1/2 price by anyone else. They may suggest changing spark plugs also
2. 3 bad door lock actuators 1000$
Most people just live with it or attempt to do themselves.
3. Cel was on they say all vacum hoses are roted and crumbling 8 hoses in total $550
Do these prices sound right? B]Take the engine plastic cover off to reveal most of the hoses. You can go to any automotive store and buy a couple feet of vacuum hose and replace yourself. Maybe $20 [/B]

I think they call that sexual assault! The door actuators and hoses you can do yourself with not much more than a screw driver and the video/instructions from this forum. If you don't want to try the valve cover gaskets, then do what you are doing and find a good indie repair shop in your area.

Take it to the Toyota dealer, much cheaper and the engine has the same layout with the all other UZ motors(tundra,sequoia,4runner) there techs are really familiar with this.
