Glass question for anyone that's been broken into
So the curse finally got me.....last week I got a call from security (what a joke) to tell me that my car had been broken into in the lot they are supposed to protect...passenger window smashed...nothing taken but still a bummer.
I called several glass places and got a quote for $190 from Triumph Auto Glass. I thought this was pretty good so I had them come out and replace it with what they called "OEM" glass. It turns out it's PPG glass, I was a little ticked off but no big deal, for <$200 I couldn't really complain.
The Problem: When I was driving home I noticed the passenger window goes up and down more slowly than the rest, and has some "lag" in the middle. I called Triumph and they sent someone out. They looked it over and said the glass must be defective so ordered me a new piece, then when it came discovered that the problem lies in the fact that the PPG glass is thicker than Lexus glass. They are checking now to see if any other aftermarket manufacturers make glass that is the same thickness. If that fails my choices are to either live with it or get a window from the stealer.
Has anyone here had similar issues with replacement door glass? Should I look for other manufacturers or just go to the stealer?
Any advice is much appreciated.

I'd thought about that, just wasn't sure about ordering used glass from out of state and risking that it gets broken or is the wrong tint etc (they made 2 different part numbers in 2000).
car-part.com rules though.....

Well...it should be same....but i know that 2001+ GS has a water repellant film on the glass.....something like RainX....but its on there permanently....not sure if this film will create a slightly off shade of yellow of the UV protection already in the glass.
The other difference is that the glass is labeled "Lexus" instead of "Toyota"....also a change in 2001+ GS.

The 04 glass should be the same. I had my drivers side front and rear windows smashed when someone stole my system. The body shop I went to got windows from the Lexus dealer for a pretty good price, but insurance covered everything so not sure what the exact amount was
