A pillar air bag with gauge pod??
Got a question for anyone!! I want to put some gauges in a pod on my A pillar but I see there is an air bag there...does anyone know if the air bag goes the whole length ot the A pillar, or is it small enought that if i add the gauge pod it won't interfere? I don't want to jack up my air bags just for some gauges. Thanks!

depends on how strict your local lexus dealership is but if you take it in, they can have that option deleted through your ecu. mine is deleted and i am about to attempt the same thing. i just told them that i had a friend who was seriously injured by their a pillar air bag so i wanted mine deleted!

You may want to talk to your insurance about deleted airbags. Usually when the VIN shows equipped as such you get a discount from them. Now if you get into a wreck and they find out you deleted the airbags, you may cut yourself short out of a claim. Just a thought....

The side curtain airbag does run the whole length. When it is deployred it pops out the bottom of the pillar and towards the drive's side window. That was a concern that I had also when I thought about puting gauge pod in the pillar.
The pillar is rally soft plastic and it is bolted at the top and held in w/ a metalpost at the bottom. If you put 2 or 3 pods I believe they would just crack or break if the air bag went off.
This is a pic form the 2001 brochure. See how the air bag comes out toward the rear and side window.
