Another 98 GS400 with 108,167 miles in below average condition went for $10,500, so probably a little under $11K with auction fees.
The auction market is really not the best place right now, because it's summertime and people are paying way more than they should.
Unfortunately, almost everybody and their brother is getting a wholesaler's license and have never been in the business. Therefore, they don't know bidding etiquette and bid way too much.
For example, a 98 GS400 with 73,910 miles in above average condition sold for $17K before auction fees. $17K?! To a person with experience, this is outrageous.
IMHO, you'd be better off looking for someone who is moving and must sell their car. That way, you'll know the owner of the car (make sure their name is on the title) and have more time to inspect the car. Unless you trust the person you're dealing with in the auction and they have a good eye for paintwork, I would recommend you steer clear.
Just my $.02

depending on what manheim auction you go to...
here in florida at FAAO the prices are a little higher.
laso you got bout 250 in auction fees, then tax on top of that.. then you got broker charge for the dealer takin u to auction
