Best avg mpg? Actual vs. Nav estimate
Well, I just got home from a cross country trip in my GS400 and let me tell you it is one amazing car to go long distances in. After past trips in other cars I always felt tired and worn out. Well, after this trip going both ways I felt energized and not ready to pass out! Anyways, on to my gas mileage. I kept track of mileage from the first tank leaving phoenix until the last time I filled up in idaho falls and on to montana. Started off getting 23.5 mpg out of phx (air running, hilly area, ect). Well, to keep it short, I then recorded actual mpg's of 24.5, 25.6, 26.1 and finally my last and best tank of 28.4mpg!! I had a few short bursts of speed/acceleration on each tank (always people slowing you down!) passing people so I think they are pretty accurate of what most people probably get on the freeway/highway. Those were actual numbers, measued with gallons vs. miles on a calculator. Not what the nav was saying I was averaging. The nav was fairly accurate vs. what I found, usually within half a mpg, but was 1mpg off and 1.3 mpg off on my last two fill ups. So I'm curious, what is the best actual mileage any of you have gotten in your GS4's? I was fully loaded too, 3 people, lots of luggage.
So lets hear it, whats the best MPG you guys have gotten and did you compare actual with what the nav said?
Mine: 28.4 actual mpg.

That's unbelievable!!! I drive 30 miles each way to work, all highway miles, and the best I can do is just shy of 21 mpg. I usually go around 75-80, but that's what you were doing as well. Are you running 16s or 17s? I think the 17s get worse mileage.

well I just did about 400 miles this weekend going to 3 diff places. 1st leg ~ 125 miles about 26-27 mpg averaging around 70mph. 2nd and 3rd leg at 90 miles each about 27-28 mpg averaging around 50 mph. 4th leg same as the 1st. all these are calculated by my nav...I haven't compared the nav to my own #s yet, but it's not a bad idea.

I'm running 16s and I had the tires balanced and road forced just before I left. (no more shimmy in the wheel!!!, love that hunter machine!).
I thought it was really good...I normally see around 21.5 with a mix of city and highway driving.

I did bring 'er up around 100mph a few times on straight stretches....and one run to 125mph when we were in MT...had to keep that avg mph up!

I live in Phoenix also. With 245/35 front and 275/30 rears I average about 21 mpg combo city/freeway (mostly city street driving). Interestingly enough, if I add octane boost to the 91 we have in Phoenix I can boost my mileage up about 1 to 1.3 mpg per tank. I have obtained 24+ mpg out of a tank running between Tucson and Phoenix w/ avg speed of 75 mph (tough to run that slow for any distance).
Running 140 (indicated) for 2 minutes coming back from L.A. showed real time "nav" consumption of 11.1 mpg.

28.3mpg with A/C; on a recent 570 mile trip from Salt Lake to Denver going through the hills of Wyoming on I-80 averaging 82mph with a few spirited uphill 7%+ grades at 110+mph.
Stock tire wheel setup 225/55/16.
Stock Lexus air filter/exhaust.
(My worst was 18.6mpg the first week I got the car, not sure why? lol.)
