I'm currently shopping for a Lexus. Narrowed down my shopping list to a used GS or the new RX330.

After examining several CPO GS, I love the 2001-present steering wheel.

Does anyone know if the 2001 GS300 steering wheel could be swapped into a 2000 GS400 to make use of the E-Shift controls?

i think it has eshift maybe, the 2000 model 400 does.

Yeah, fireballs, the 2000 GS400 has E-shift. But I'm wondering whether I can switch the steering wheel FROM a 2001 GS300 to a 2000 GS400 (both have E-shift) to take advantage of the more ergonomic driver's steering wheel in the 2001.

The air bag will not fit. The 2001 GS300 steering wheel has a slightly rounder/ a little bit larger designed and the air bag on the 01 GS will not work on the 98-00 GS either. Due to the 2 stages designed of the air bag and the 98-00 has one air bag connector VS 2 connectors on the 01 GS.

Stick with the older steering wheel. it looks sharper and sportier. The new one looks like it should be on a ES or a LS.

There is a way to get a 2001 3-spoke Chrome Emblem airbag on a older Lexus.

I did in my 1992 SC400....

What you need is a 2001 RX300 Airbag (ONLY that model, ONLY that year) as it is the ONLY and I mean ONLY single stage Chrome Emblem airbag Lexus has made. Then you need to get the same style airbag connector (on the coil side...so you might need to buy that entire coil assembly. You CAN NOT buy the connector alone). Then you need a 2001+ steering wheels. A ES300, RX300, GS430/300 one will work fine.

I posted some pictures of my SC400 with the airbag mod a while back...the search function should turn up something...

Just to let you know, the Airbag/Steering wheel is NOT cheap....this is probably a $1000+ mod unless you can get some sort of hookup or something...
