Yup, drove a '15 and that sucker upshifted. Not sure what the conditions are for it to hold the gear to redline. This car sure didn't though. Went to an F-Sport Experience event today and was blown away with how great the RC-F felt around the course, even for a novice like me.

Damn that LP looks damn good on the RC F. Okay that's it, I'm trading in now.

Almost made a very bad decision on the way home. Good thing the dealership was the other way. If it wasn't, I'd be a broke (but happy) man.

This is exactly what Lexus describes is supposed to happen (see below). If the transmission remained in the gear until redline was hit the rev limiter would engage and cause the engine to stutter when the fuel was cutoff... No one wants that to happen when they are looking for performance. (This isn't your grandpa's late 1960s muscle car.) Plus, I suspect Lexus (and other car makers incorporating the same automatic upshift parameters) realize that many (probably most) drivers of their cars are not going to be able to manually upshift at the maximum limit, a mere 200 RPMs before redline - so they made the electronically controlled transmission so it would shift for them even though it is in Manual shift more.

I believe you'll find that manually shifting (lever or paddles) is really more for downshifting to enhance handling cornering - for braking, dynamically loading the chassis in the corners, and making the car's suspension and engine ready to accelerate at the apex. Any upshifts would best be handled by the automatic transmission because upshifting manually would likely be 'short-shifting', upshifting short or before the ideal RPM.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Automatic shifting is conducted in the following cases, even when in M mode:
– A “–” shift when vehicle speed decreases.
– When the temperature of automatic transmission fluid and engine coolant drops, shifting is conducted based on a
low oil temperature shifting pattern.
– When the automatic transmission fluid temperature is high, automatic shifting is performed.
When the engine speed reaches the redline, gear shifting is conducted automatically.
Are they still marking up the price like crazy? I can imagine the lease on this is over $1K with massive down payment.
