Mythbusters did a study on this. If you create the dimple effect of a golf ball to your car, you will see increased performance. Was pretty astounding actually... Even with the increased weight from adding a layer of clay to the car.

Joe Z Designed & released his way back in 2006

Gains were independently dyno proven on an IS350
at approximately 5 rwhp.

F-Sport released their version of the Joe Z intake design in
2008. (no dyno numbers)

So, in my opinion K&N just made what Joe Z made 8 years ago..

I had been running the Joe Z intake for over a year now..
