Default Replacing passenger side mirror

Some idiot smashed into my passenger side rear-view mirror, shattered the glass and cracked the housing.

The local lexus service shop is quoting $950 to replace the entire thing, and $550 just for the glass (I can live with the crack in the housing). It is the model with the blind spot detection.

Does anyone have specific part numbers for replacement parts? I can't figure out if the mirror itself is really that much, if it's only sold with the motors and electronics, etc.

All I really need to replace is the glass.

Thanks-

I suspect it might be expensive because of the fact that it is an auto-dimming mirror.

(had a similar problem with my previous car - ES - dealership serviced it, and returned it to me - the driver mirror was completely dark (barely any reflection) - no visible damage to the mirror. Dealership covered it under warranty - said that it might have gotten damaged during the wash. Net cost would have been $700 had it not been covered by warranty)

Wouldn't your insurance cover this? Even if you have a $500 collision deductible, you would still come out ahead and they would replace the entire thing. Since the incident is not your fault, this should not affect your rates at all.

Wow sorry to hear that. Have you checked here? http://lexus.sewellparts.com/oem-cat...S350-2013.html If you register and add you're a clublexus member you get a pretty decent discount. There aren't actually any electronics associated with the blind spot except for the light icon in the mirror thankfully. The sensor is located in the rear/side fender area fyi.

The plastic is really easy to come off. Pull the mirror off the clips, unscrew and it'll all get apart. Very easy

IMHO....its a new $60,000 car...I think its worth replacing a cracked mirror housing vs "living with it"...
