Default Battery drain

Have a 6 month old GS 350 and went on vacation for 1 month. When we got back the battery was dead. The dealer said that is normal. The car computers drain the battery and that I need to disconnect the battery or leave a trickle charger on the battery when it is not used for a couple of weeks. Is this normal or is something draining the battery that the dealer doesn't want to spend the time figuring out what it is?

Hell no it's no normal, I've been experiencing the same thing and it happens after a week of not driving the car. They still haven't found a fix yet. there is a thread on it as well.

Edit: beat me to it Mike728

Mine died after 10 days.

Did you lock the car? I left my keys near the car unlocked and wondered if that could be the problem.

Anyways I got them to change the original Panasonic battery with the new Lexus (interstate?) one and so far so good. I did purchase a trickle charger until Lexus comes up with a fix. Don't want to come home to dead battery again. Worst if I left the car at the airport.

I've left mine for 14 days and had no problem.

Any suggestions for a good trickle charger? I'm out of town for 15 days soon and definitely do not want to come home to a dead car...

I just picked this up from Amazon for less than $25 shipped. Pretty good rating. Small insurance for potential big inconvenience.

I bought this one back in 2010 and have been using it for over 3 years on BMW's and my Lexus. It's the same one BMW sells for $80 and does an excellent job.

I've also used this one from Autozone. It's a bit cheaper at around $30 but it does the same job.

Another great charger but overkill if all you need is trickle charge. The junior version will be more than sufficient.

I've had that one for about 15 years now and used it for years on a classic car I owned for many years over the winter and daily in car show season .
I now use it on the GS as it sits at times.
I'd buy another Battery Tender Plus in a heartbeat.

What exactly do the car's computers need to do when the car is parked, that will drain the battery down? Is it checking for Lexus Insider (or whatever it is called) Messages to display to the driver? If so, do it when the driver gets into the car and turns it on. Why on earth would it want to do anything when the driver is not in the car?

Sorry, I just don't get it

Thankfully, my car hasn't done that yet - I've left it untouched for about 3 weeks in a row once. It would be frustrating if it drained like that.

My car will be sitting for over a week here in a few weeks, in the garage. If it doesn't start right up after we get back, I'm selling the car. True. Story.

The TSB in the link above is no longer viewable? I wouldn't mind reading it again if anyone can locate it, I did a Google search but couldn't. Mine died again this morning for the second time. Mrs fuming with her dental appointment and kids' schools; I had to take a half day off work. This is getting silly.
