Default Yellow mustard sludge in radiator

Hi please help I have a 98 gs 300 love the car has 159000 the temp gauge has been going g up and down running hot I open the hood checked the rad is no antifreeze and there is a thick yellow sludge same with the over flow tank that has a lot of sludge in it please help I don't have a clue. Just some history I don't abuse her change oil 3000 miles she runs great but when the over heating started I also get a reAl rough idle when sitting g at red light feels like the car is going to conk out thank you in advance for the help !

Sounds like you have oil in your coolant with a blown head gasket.. Ive never experienced a yellow sludge, but that sounds bad.

I am not a mechanic is this serious stuff like a blown engine should I let the car go try to trade it in ?

Not sure what value you would get out of a trade in... But if you aren't mechanically inclined at all you wont have a fun time changing a head gasket. I recommend finding someone that can help you, but I imagine the labor to do so would be close to a thousand dollars, and a little over a hundred for the head gasket.

Sorry for the bad news but I have to agree. The mustard is your coolant mixing with your oil and you will need to have a new head gasket installed.

The Head Gasket Set is $130 and the Head Bolts are $60 ~ $70. If you're not an experienced mechanic I wouldn't try it. I just did mine over the holiday. Seems like the older GS300 are popping head gaskets more frequently these days.

I have "heard" of others getting the work done for under a grand. I would hit up every mechanic buddy you have in your network.
