PROJECT! Convert USDM fogs to JDM yellow*pics*
Problem: USDM fogs are white, JDM fogs are yellow but dont fit.
solution: follow steps below.
Ok so i was bored today and decided id try a project to convert US fogs to yellow, it was succesfull so i figured id post it in case some of you wanted to try it. i will try to go into as much detail as possible on the important stuff but if i leave something out let me know.
ok here goes: i purchased a set of JDM fogs on Ebay CHEAP ($9.99 lol!!!), they were in crappy condition but since i was going to tear them apart for this project and they dont fit the US bumper i dont care.
ok next is a pic of the US(left) and JDM(right) fogs side by side, you can see they are not nearly the same shape or size
ok well begin by removing your fogs, im not gonna go into detail on this you should already know how to change a bulb!
Now you need to remove the lense, to remove mine i took off the little clips and placed them in the oven at 300 degrees for 3-5 mins. (depends on oven) untill the caulk (glue) softens and you can remove the lense, i started with a small screwdriver and made a small gap then used a paint scraper to pry it off. it may take a few mins. or require more oven time (BE PATIENT!!) once the lens is removed it will look like this:
its a good idea to scrape as much sealant off the edges as possible while its still warm and easier to work with.
next i removed the metal piece inside, i guess you could leave it on there but i removed it because it was easier to do with it removed, to remove this piece i just wiggled it untill it broke and it looked like this:
ok now we have that part ready let move onto the JDM part, first remove the black plastic screw on cover on the back to access the bulb, once removed you will see two small screws (in pic) remove those screws.
once removed pull out the whole assembly, it looks like this:
cool huh!!!
where i am pointing with the screwdriver there are two pieces joined together, take a small screwdriver and CAREFULLY!!! pry the two apart, it should look like this when done:
ok now we have what we need to convert the US ones to yellow, you can now place the part in my fingers back into JDM housing and screw together, you are done with it.
ok in the next pic (A) you can see the same two pieces from a different angle, the piece on the left is what goes back into the JDM housing, it is the same as the one in pic (B) the only difference is that the assembly on the US light isnt removable:
pic (A):
pic (B):
Ok now take the yellow lense with the small piece of metal on it and put it onto the piece on the US light, you will see that there are 3 points on it that are sort of bent in, these line up with holes on the new housing, IT IS TIGHT and you may want to remove the yellow lense to prevent damage, i just set it on top and tapped it into place with a screwdriver (using like a chisel)
when you are done it should look like this:
ok now the hard part is over, now all thats left is to do some final cleaning around lense and housing (had g/f help with this):
make sure inside is clean and then reassemble, i used clear RTV silicone to seal it with.
ok now you have one done, just repeat for the other.
well i hope this will be helpfull to someone, if i left something out or you dont understand something let me know and ill answer your question.
Rob.

Thanks for the support guys! Now they are MUCH brighter at night, id say it had more to do with removing the metal light deflector than the color. Next on the list is to make the fogs come on with the marker lights without the headlights, i might try it today, depending on how my g/f reacts i might have to leave it till i get home again in 2 weeks.
hey is anyone interested in a set of custom clear jdm fogs??, id make a hell of a deal on em' LOL!!!!
