Default Question: Summer Tires in Texas Winter

I just got my 2015 GS 350 F-Sport RWD and LOVE it! I do have a question for all of you in North Texas. The car comes with the performance summer tires. How are you dealing with the - albeit - very short North Texas winters? Any major concerns on those rare days with freeze or even snow on our roads? Do you just stay home or do you brave the roads with those summer tires?

Never experienced very cold temps here in socal but summer tires will get very slippery and dangerous in temps below around 40 degrees.

It starts the car off in second gear to reduce power and potential slippage to the drive wheels. The resistance in the gas pedal is increased as well.

Yes, smart insurance companys will deny accident coverage if driving with improper tires!

With bald tires, yeah, I can see why they might object. But I would be surprised if a reputable insurance company denies an accident claim when driving in snow with all-season tires

You really do NOT want to be driving any vehicle that has summer tires in the winter, and it really does not make any difference whether you're talking about driving in warm weather states like Florida, Texas or California. It also makes no difference whether the vehicle is a SUV or a Corvette. Cool temperatures of 40-45 degrees (not even close to freezing temperatures) alone are enough to break the traction between the tire's tread and the road surface. Forget about rain, sleet, snow, etc. - those conditions just add to the reason why summer tires are not designed for use during the winter. Don't ask for trouble when you can avoid it.
