Default Drive belt clicking and squealing

update: the water pump was the culprit for the noise.

So my 2013 gs350 with just over 40k miles started making a clicking and squealing noise during start up and while driving. I took a video of the noise when started cold without the a/c on.

I've already taken it in to the dealer for service but out of curiously, does anyone have any guesses as to what the problem may be? I'll provide an update after the the dealer completes service.

That sounds pretty bad. Let us know what they did to fix that.

Mine's just recently started to squeak on cold starts, sometimes it is way too loud.

Sounds like little mini firecrackers. That's definitely not normal.

Do a search on CL for engine clicking noise, you'll find several threads discussing this "infamous" topic. Apparently it's common with several earlier models of IS, GS and LS. We're just NOW starting to experience it.

I have not found a solid fix solution within these threads for the cause of this noise, most owners have just lived with it.

I would first suspect one of the belt tensioners. They generally screech more than click, but they do rattle sometimes. They make auto stethescopes that will allow you to isolate the noise. You can get one really cheap from an auto parts place. Probably worth the investment to isolate the source of the noise.

Alright, I got my car back and they replaced the water pump and drive belt. There was some play on the water pump which caused the clicking. Debris from the water pump also got on the belt which caused the loud squeal. Seems weird for 40k miles but it's fixed now, so all is well.

Dang! Water pump at 40k? I'm glad it's fixed and you noticed the problem while you were still under warranty.

A lot of Camry water pumps went out as early as 20K miles. Toyota's quality isn't as good as it used to be anymore.
