I like the front of 4GS but the tail of new ES look even better. Not to mention new ES Lux have full power trunk.
On the other 13 RX and 13 LS you will find all the new Lexus will look alike. Just smaller or bigger and some twist.

If you can not tell the difference between these two cars your obviously not a car enthusiast. I can spot the differences from a mile away . And those top wheels do not exist on the 4gs. The only resemblance i see is the spindle grill which is what ties all the models together and every luxury brand does this. Notice that its not fully outlined in chromed on the GS first visual cue that they are not the same model.

Pole Position
It's down in the engineering nuts and bolts where the difference lies.
One car has a rear-wheel drive chassis optimised for equal front-rear weight distribution and for absolute stability at Autobahn speeds and is arguably the best handling mid-size sedan in its class. Every weld in the chassis is deliberate to the extent that the engineers test-drove the car after every successive weld so as to optimize handling and feel/feedback. One has in-effect a big-brake kit with 2 -piece rotors straight from the factory. Heck, even the shape of the rear lights were shaped to increase downforce to aid stability in high speed driving.
The other is the ES.

I have those wheels, as do many Lux package GS350 owners.

I made a fool out of myself a month back when I inisted they had a gs in my color combo for 46,000
Walked out and the car was an ES.
Now I can defintely tell the differences but I agree they are not drastically different.

Lexus Test Driver
I can tell the difference...to me, it's easy to differentiate the the GS from the ES. Frankly, I think the new Lexus face-lift is particularly better looking on the ES...maybe because it has been such a long-time since the last ES refresh. Anyway, I predict that Lexus will experience an unprecedented surge in demand for the ES (this is not to imply that the new GS suffers in the looks department)...especially since there's now a hybrid version for that model's lineup.

I just drove the ES at our local Lexus store. Let me assure you that from the driver's perspective there is a vast difference between the ES and the GS.

And I agree. The similarities are so stark it reduces the uniqueness of the GS350 with the cheaper ES350 looking so similar. A non-Lexus person would have a hard time differentiating between the 2 models. I was in my dealership this morning and you have to look twice to tell the difference between the two..

For non-enthusiasts, they do look a like. Personally I like the rear of the ES a bit better though.
However, I am sure the driving experiences are totally different between the two, for good reasons of course.

How similar do the Audi A4 and A6 look? As previously stated, luxury automotive maufacturers are trying to have a noticeable feature across their line that identifies the brand and distinguishes it from other car makers. Yes, the new ES looks similar to the GS, but that is in appearance only. Happy to have the new GS.

The GS looks better to me.
I am very disappointed at the styling of the new 2012-2017 ES; I think the old ES from 2007-2012 was the best looking ES ever...
