Toyota changed my oil, and I'm confused?
SHORT:
Is Toyota 5w-20 synthetic?
LONG:
So, with my previous Lexus, I would get the routine oil changes at Toyota. That was a while ago. Recently picked up this GS 350, decided to take it into Toyota 5 minutes from my house. The extended hours are so convenient for me. BTW, I called around, and here are some local prices:
Clear Choice -
$59.99 regular(I think this is synthetic blend)
$69.99 full synthetic
Westside Lexus -
$89.95 regular
$150.00 full synthetic (service advisor I spoke to didn't sound so sure, but was like oh, synthetic for that car...like $150).
Toyota of Katy
$69.99 full synthetic
Didn't bother asking about regular.
Now my first choice would have been Clear Choice, as I've heard good things. But their hours make it difficult to get there for service. So I ended up at Toyota, which is literally off the exit I take going home. Get there, tell them I need an oil change, it's my first time. They take all my info and put it in their computer. I then tell the service advisor, full synthetic please, and he's replies "oh ya, of course, I wouldn't put anything but synthetic in that car," like I didn't even have to tell him. Ok good, sounds good I think. Ended up taking about 45-50 minutes. I get to paying for the oil change and it's only $37 bucks. So I'm a bit confused for a second and then tell her that I asked for synthetic oil. The girl at the register says talk to the service advisor. So I go back, my SA is gone, but ask another guy. He looks at the receipt and explains that 5w-20 is synthetic. So I leave wondering if they just charged me for regular oil change and I got a synthetic oil change? (ching ching) So did I get regular, synthetic blend, or is 5w-20 really synthetic?
