Advice Please! 2006 GS300 Purchase after Recall Service
I am looking for a little advice on purchasing my first GS (I've previously owned '95 SC, '94es, '99RX). I love the longevity of Lexus vehicles like many of you and have the opportunity to buy a GS from a second owner with all service records from and only Lexus.
Details:
2006 GS300 AWD
130,000 miles
Clean title and Carfax report
2 Owners
*Bluetooth microphone is not working
No maintenance is required at this time
*The CEL came on 5,000 miles ago. The current owner never had any oil burning issues or shuttering. The current owner took it to the dealership. The dealership changed the pistons, valve springs, O-rings and decarbonized the cylinders...etc This was all paid for by the dealership. The owner also went ahead with a tune-up and serpentine belt change among other things since the engine was taken apart. *I have the paperwork from Lexus in front of me.
The current owner is a trustworthy individual. He is selling the car to purchase the new GX460 because of his 3 kids.
I can get this car for $10,000. What I am asking is, should I still stay away from this model year even though the recall was completed? I could pick up a 2007 for about $12,800 but it is more than I currently want to spend.

Well considering the engine lasted that long already, and now you basically have a brand new engine, I'd say it's a solid buy. They have issues but I've seen plenty of the 06 300s with 200k on them. I might try talking the price down a grand or two.

Thanks for the replies and reassurances. I was able to get the history report on the car from my Lexus service rep. I do see that quite a bit was performed over the years. My biggest concern is that the recall didn't solve the issue or only postponed the issue.
*My service rep did tell me that the 2006 GS is unpredictable concerning oil consumption. I was told that some cars, even after the recall was performed, experienced oil consumption, misfires and/or shuttering. I was even told that some 2007 and 2008 models have similar issues.
Would be great to hear from anyone that had the recall service done, but still experienced shuttering, stalling or misfires. I do agree though, there are a lot of 2006s that have 200,000 miles on them. That feels reassuring.
Maybe the question isn't whether this car is a good purchase. Maybe the questions is:
Would you rather purchase a 2006 that has had the recall performed with 130,000miles or would you rather spend $2000 more and get a 2007 GS350 with the same miles (No piston recall on the engine performed)?

Also, as others have chimed in to this thread, I am seeing that there are other reasons to skip the 2006 GS300 for the a more updated 2007 GS350.
Again I appreciate everyone's responses. I will post a pic of my 2007GS once I decide on one.
