Default About to buy a 2006 GS300 ?

I have a tentative deal on a 2006 GS300. But
.. after reading all the negative points about it on this website... not sure I should go through with the deal. Excessive oil consumption... transmission problems? The car is AWD and has 80,000 miles on it. It is exceptionally clean inside and out, and has a very good carfax report. No accidents and serviced at the Lexus dealer it's whole life. About 35 service records available to look at. .and nothing unusual on the service records. We currently own a Camry and it's been a great car. I looked up complaints on it and... it shows a number of complaints about oil consumption... which I have had none of. At 106,000 miles it still uses no oil.... so... now I'm a bit puzzled as to what I should believe
I would appreciate any advice from any of you who owned a 2006 GS300... should I buy it?

My 2006 GS 300 currently has over 170K miles on her and it runs beautifully. Some of the complaints concerning the 300 are overblown. It was the first model year of the 3rd Generation so obviously subsequent models (such as the 2007 GS350) had improvements such as more power and quieter interiors.

Here’s what to expect:

1. Oil consumption is a general issue in the 300 because of reports of carbon build up, but it’s not a deal killer. Have your oil changed every 3k miles instead of 5k and use a synthetic blend or full synthetic. I use ValvolineMax for high mileage and my car runs quietly and smoothly.

2. Dash rattles. The 3rd Gen 2006 model suffers from this issue and the manufacturer is aware of it. There are kits online that can remedy some of the rattles but my car hasn’t given me the same problems as other owners. Perhaps my model was lucky.

3. No audio aux jack on the 2006 models. You have Bluetooth functionality but it’s for phone calls only. Fortunately Quick fixes are available to add streaming music to your existing system. I have the Mark Levinson system and it’s pretty decent for me. I also added Bluetooth for streaming music.

** Beyond those minor pet peeves these cars are built like tanks. The engines are solid and my transmission hasn’t shown any issues. I’m hoping to get 250k miles out of my Lexus before moving on to a BMW perhaps. But for now, I’m still in love with my baby. **

I just recently purchased an '06 GS300 with 122k miles. I immediately changed the oil and put synthetic in it. At 124,500 miles, my low oil warning came on. It took about 3 quarts of oil! In the meantime, I have now run 2 cans of BG44k through it and have noticed a dramatic increase in power while driving. The idle has also smoothed out. My hope is that it has cleared out enough of the carbon build-up to remedy the oil consumption problem. I'll be watching my oil level closely for a while. I'll also by buying stock in BG44K.....

Personally, I think the problems associated with carbon build-up can be overcome with a little maintenance and then enjoy the car for years.

I also need to know for sure if the 300 has a timing belt or chain... I have heard it has a belt

It is absolutely a chain. You can even search the auto parts stores and see if they sell a belt for it. You'll only find chains.

Thank you very much... if it were belt driven I would not buy it.Also... I have never heard of BG44K? Where would I find it?

I ordered it on Amazon. It's a fuel system cleaner. It's not cheap at all, but I never get results from the less expensive cleaners, like Sea Foam. At least with this one, I can tell a difference in performance.

Depends on the buying price, the 06 as you know has the issues. But if the prices is right go for it! But its best to resort to the 07-up gs350's

Thanks grdsman!!! I did a Google search and found several videos on YouTube which word impressive. Then I found it on eBay and Amazon..
I read a bunch of reviews on Amazon and it sounds like The Real deal
I'm going to buy some and run it and all my vehicles.

Yeah, I ran the third can through my 2000 Silverado just for kicks. I look forward to seeing if it helps my oil consumption in the GS.

the price is $9000
... not exactly a great deal... but not bad, considering how clean the car is inside and out ....nterior and paint ..both excellent shape

That CDI direct injection cleaning... and adding a" catch can" ... went right over my head.. I have no idea how to do that procedure... or What A Catch can is?

I use what is on the oil filler cap. I can't remember if it is 5 or 10W-30.
