Question New Member, GS430 Questions

Hi All, I just bought a 2006 GS430 (50k miles). My first Lexus and I am a new member to CL. I always like to know as much as possible about any car I own. There are a few questions I have not been able find answers.
1. Is the differential a limited slip type? If yes, is it a Torsen type or clutch-pack? Is it electronically controlled?
2. Are the adjustable shock absorbers adjusted automatically as you drive or merely set by the driver (tour / sport).
3. Is the power steering electronic or hydraulic?
THANKS for your help. . .

i don't think the 3gs has lsd at all across all models

Check out this thread by JBrady on our Open Differentials Limited Slip Differential facts

A new Adaptive Variable Suspension system is available on the GS430. This allows the driver to fine tune the GS’s ride using two damper settings, activated by a switch next to the gear lever. ‘Normal’ mode is for everyday driving comfort; ‘Sport’ mode improves body control and gives precise response to steering inputs in cornering.

Selecting the AVS system’s ‘Sport’ mode increases the difference between inner and outer shock absorber damping through corners to further reduce vehicle roll. At the same time, VGRS automatically reduces the steering gear ratio and EPS increases the level of steering assist torque. Together these measures minimise body roll, sharpen handling and produce greater steering feel for the driver.

AVS automatically adjusts suspension performance independently at all four wheels, monitoring data from sensors for the engine rpm, front wheel speed, steering and stop lamp and from three vertical acceleration G-force sensors. The data is analysed by a control computer which activates the appropriate actuator in each shock absorber.

Default Also a new member, 06 gs430

hello,
im a new member and i need help with my gs430 steering gear.
im want to buy a new steering gear, but all that i find have the note "w/o stabilizer bar control" how can i know if mine has stabilizer bar control or not?

I contacted the guys at xportautoparts.com, gave them my VIN number and they told me that the one i need is the one with OEM NUMBER 4420030471..... I looked up and it is for the gs430 w/o stabilizer bar control.... Is there a way to know if my car has it or not?

Thanks guys.

Hi, welcome to CL!

First, I would call your local Lexus dealership's parts counter to get this info, they should be able to tell for sure what the correct part is. As for the stabilizer bar control – not sure, but that sounds like its referring to the active rear sway bar option

Why do you want to replace your steering gear?

Damn, sorry to hear that. At least you're okay!

Basically, cars with the active rear sway bar (it's called APSSS) have an electric motor mounted on the rear sway bar. When you take a turn the motor will preload the rear sway bar, which reduces body roll – this essentially gives you cornering performance as if you had a much thicker sway bar on the car, without the comfort penalty of actually having a much thicker sway bar. Look under the carpet in your trunk – if you see a spare tire, you don't have the active sway bar, if there's a bunch of electronics then you do have it

EDIT: There's a motor for the front sway bar too
