Newbie, thinking about picking mid-high miles GS300
Hi all,
Been looking for a comfortable dd. I'm not into fancy schmancy tech stuff in a car as I usually prefer bare bones cars with feeling/connection to the road but was considering picking up a gs300 AWD 06 with 123k miles. (it comes with the tech package, which i'm not quite sure it consists of but i know it comes with navi)
The guy is asking $13.9k which I think is a little high, I have scheduled to meet with him tonight and was wondering what kinds of things should I look out for? From research I have read the most common annoyance is rattles (which i don't care so much about). I believe the timing belt and water pump has been replaced, but am unsure. At what miles does the GS300 require that to be changed and does the car throw a code to tell people to change it? The car is bone stock, and the owner sounds like an older gentleman who is going to purchase another brand new lexus. I don't really consider luxury cars when i buy my cars but this one seems to be somewhat economical on gas (27mpg hwy) and comes awd (for the snow).
What are your guys' suggestion on what I should offer depending on the condition? Any other tips or suggestions elsewise?
Thanks in advance!

I just purchased a new DD for myself. 07 GS350 AWD non nav or sound, but I'm like you I was looking for a DD so options didn't mean anything for me.
I would check to see if he has service records for the car. I personally did more vision and appearance inspections which consist of the following:
I think you get the picture. Plus you have to ask your gut is this a purchase you want to take a change on. You could always ask if you can take it to a mechanic or dealership to have the vehicle looked over since you are making an investment.
Also, if you feel the price is a little high ask if that's the lowest he will take or throw a number out there. "A closed mouth won't get fed"
I hope this helps

- cracking of leather seats
- smell of car
- signs of damage
- pay attention to the paint and clear coat for signs of peeling
- hoses
- battery connections
- looked under the car for leaks
- tire wear

Car is on a timing chain, no replacement needed.

I don't think it's a bad price either. I had passed along an ad for one local to me that was a 06 300 awd with 120k for 17 or 18 and thought that was fair (at least for Seattle)
Maintenance records are especially nice. I'm the 2nd owner of my car. All major maintenance and records at only 2 Lexus dealerships which at least to me is a plus.

sorry no pics. only damage to the car is a small door ding and thats it!
The windshield fluid squirter on the driver side is broken, anyone know how much that costs? It's the chrome trim piece in the headlight that covers the headlamp washer. also, the privacy screen does not roll up or down, is this a common problem? I'm pretty mechanically inclined but does the motor usually go bad on this car?
otherwise it's a rock solid car. would lexus be able to pull up some sort of purchase history for the car or service history if i have the vin number?

Service history should be doable, up to the last time it was serviced in the dealer network. If the last couple of services have been with indies, Lexus will have no way of knowing and keeping tabs on it.
Check the service booklet has been stamped and look at any receipts the owner may've kept to prove parts were purchased.
Your chrome trim piece is not sold separately, but with the pop up nozzle unit.
Check Sewell's parts sections and register, then use your CL member details to get our discounted price for it. Think it's around the $400 mark before member discount.
No idea about the rear sunblind.

wow, that's ridiculous. they don't sell the chrome trim separately? sounds like poor design engineering or toyota trying to make more money haha.

it seems like it is $288 on their website, if i buy from them is it even cheaper than what they have listed on their website?
seems like this website has it for $230:

yup, that piece is not sold seperately and you have to buy the whole trim for around $250. mylexparts.com is the cheapest place you'll find it (other than ebay if you find one on there).
the rear sunshade has been a problem for people. i believe its like $1300 to replace.
