Just got my car back from the shop. I rebuilt the tranny for 2100 with a 3 yr warranty. So far so good...although in stop and go traffic last night, my car did seem like it was stuck and gear and my car was vibrating a bit. Gonna see how it goes for a week and bring it back to the shop if it continues.

2006 gs300 awd
At 58,000 miles, with no prior warning or symptoms, the transmission will not shift into reverse and makes a grinding noise. Towed it to the local Toyota Dealer (closest Lexus Dealer is over 100 miles), and they diagnose catastrophic transmission failure and want $3,600 to replace with a factory reconditioned one. The car has been driven very conservatively, by my 93 year old mother, since new. I have contacted Lexus Corporate customer service and they want it at their dealer, before they will make any decision about helping with the repairs. I may get stuck with an additional towing bill and a higher shop rate at Lexus, but am hoping that corporate will help with the cost of parts, as they did with another writer. I'll keep you posted and appreciate any feedback.

I have this problem right now at 162k miles with the 06 gs300 rwd. Long story short, dealer says should replace transmission. They say changing solenoid would only be temporary and most people who elect that way end up having to change transmission. I don't know that I should trust their word though. What did you or anyone with this problem do to fix?

Torque converter replaced at 138K
2007 GS 350 AWD started stuttering between 20-35 MPH at around 135K. No codes. Local dealer quoted $2,900. After plea to Lexus, dealer was able to fix it with cost split 50-50%.

Pole Position
You realize that the transmission in the HS250 is completely and totally different (CVT) than the transmission in the non-hybrid GS being discussed here right?

I have about 125k did the Misfire recall at about 110k but my 1 hour drive home at the last leg close to home my transmission got stuck in 3rd. Also needed an oil change at the time. I did have the check engine and check vsc come out a few month prior but re flashed it cause it could of the gas cap. But had the GS sit for a few months now finally did the oil change and took her for a spin and had no problems?!?!??!?!? wth. but notice i had a bolt from the transmission pan just chillin in the plastic shroud skid. no way in hell one would just back out itself. called my SR at cerritos lexus but he hasnt called me back yet.... Plus need to get that Gas recall.
Gonna see what they can do for me if it is the solenoid ..
a buddy of mine told me to JER Development for the transmission repair.

I just hit a 115K on my 09 GS with AWD. I am starting to experience a shudder on occasion between 25-35 mph. I'm going to talk to my buddy tomorrow who is a master tech at the Lexus dealer I used to work at and see what he says. I'll keep you guys posted.

147k - Same exact problem
2006 Lexus GS 300 was parked for two weeks when we were on vacation. Came back on Weds, started car on Thursday - and the car's check engine/VSC lights were on. Took it to Austin Lexus Friday - was diagnosed needing a new transmission @ 147k miles. Estimate provided by Lexus dealer: $5,200.
The irony is that I just told someone the other day I expect to get 200k miles out of this car and that's why I purchased a Lexus.
This may sound crazy, but what does it take to have a car manufacturer issue a recall? In checking ClubLexus, this tranny issue seems to be a common problem with '06 GS and IS models at the 150k mileage mark.
