Good Morning CL...

I have a MAJOR issue with my radio. I searched the forums for this and only found 1 post matching my issue...and no fix was found.

Whenever I turn on the rear defrosters on my 07' GS350 | NAV | ML the FM radio frequency goes out, and I only get static. This "only" happens when I enable my rear defroster.

Does anyone have a fix to this issue. No MODs have been done on the head unit at all. I'm ordering the Prestigious Society unit for the nav override, but I would like to get this issue fixed first.

Any suggestions????

Yeah...it's really annoying when you want to listen to the radio in the morning and defrost the car at the same time...WTF :-(

Does it happen only in a specific location or will it happen anywhere that you use the defroster?

Is it actually cutting out, or is it adding hum/hiss or other distortions.

is it all stations? i have a similar problem after i got my rack replaced. with my hid fogs on, the sports radio i listen to comes in staticy. all other stations are fine though.

It happens on all the FM stations.....

So, here is the update!

I called my service department at Cherry Hill Lexus in New Jersey, and they told me that since my is 2029miles out of warranty...there is nothing that they can do. I was given the Lexus Corporate number 1800-25-Lexus. So, I called and explained my situation to them. I was told that they would do everything that they could to fix my issue, and that I will get a call back within 2 days.

I mean...my car has 52029miles on it. I hope that they will be able to rectify my issue. Do you guys have any experience with Lexus Corporate?

i have this issue on my 06 is250, radio will be fine then you turn on rear defrost and bam all static

Jerzee, if corporate doesn't help, just complain more. My experience with them though is good. As long as your request isn't outrageous, they are more than willing to help.

Lexus corporate is easy to deal with, and more than helpful (I've found over 6+ years of owning Lexus vehicles) I'm surprised the dealership won't goodwill the repair, as you are only 2k out of the warranty period! Do you have a service history with that dealership? If not ... that probably why they aren't willing to goodwill.


As far as your issue, since the FM antenna is integrated into the rear windshield, I would venture to say that your issue is related to a short in the rear defrost wiring. Is there anything on your window that would be causing a short ... was the window scratched/defrost scratched, etc?

I believe that there is a signal booster for the FM antenna near the rear deck or C-pillar area ... maybe that has gone bad, and is picking up interference from the rear defroster.

Not sure if this has anything to do with yours, but if the same company is making all these windows, it could. I purchased a 2007 Buick Lacrosse on 9/16/11 and 4 day later I had to use the defogger and 15 minutes after I turned it on there was a loud boom and a huge hole was blown in my rear glass. After doing research on the net I found BULLETIN No: 03-08-44-005g. that states there could be static in the radio when using the rear defogger..It said NOTHING about it could explode. I also found other people that had had a hole to blow out in their rear windows too. I contacted GM and was told my 50,000 mile warranty had run out.. HOW DOES A DEFECT IN A PRODUCT RUN OUT....

Like 98oyster posted check the rear defrost for breaks or scratches since now the rear window is your radio antenae

Has anyone found that a break or short in the rear window defroster was the problem, and after discovering this, was there a fix, did it work??
