06 GS300 ipod/nav traffic integration?
Anyone have any suggestions on how I can incorporate xm navtraffic AND and ipod with oem radio with Mark Levinson and Navigation? I've heard of VAIS but I want to add the nav traffic too.

XM navtraffic is a new system and it's something you can't just add to existing navigation system designed with no navtraffic feature in mind. Currently only LS460/600h and LX570 has XM navtraffic feature in Lexus line up.
It's impossible to have an existing navigation system display traffic info and route direction based on that info without completely rewriting the existing software and redesign hardware.
it's different than retrofitting Ipod where you can install an adaptor like the VAIS which translates the signal to the one that lexus navigation understands. I believe one way to do is to have navagtion system recognize Ipod as a XM satelight radio.

Actually Vais has an input for ipod or xm/sirrius satelite that works with the factory system. I was just wondering if anyone knows (or had experience) if nav traffic will work with the Vais adapter. I'm going to try and call Vais to see if they can assist.

Nav traffic is entirely different thing. Again, it's something you cant just add to any navigation system. Navigation system operating system has be designed to understand and display the traffic information on the map.
You have to understand the concept of aftermarket adaptor. It translates the signal to something factory system understands and utilizes the existing feature.
Factory system has XM/Sirrius feature but does not have capability to display traffic info on the map.
Forget it, it's not possible.

I don't believe that car has the traffic ready system required. Certainly the 06 GS300 that started this thread does not. A call to your dealer parts department will confirm it one way or the other. It will become more common over time no doubt but is in limited Lexus models right now. I don't know if tjp's list is 100% or not but is dead on in terms of concept.

some 3gs already has the proper hooks for the XM. if so all you need is a small module to connect the XM (and of course subscriptions needed). however, i don't know about XM traffic. i would imagine it has more to do with the navigation software too to decode and integrate XM traffic data with the map database. as mentioned, these are available on LS and LX right now. if with XM they can do it on the other lexus models as well, i would think lexus has advertised it already
for ipod it's simple. again as mentioned products like vaistech are great on this

The xmnavtraffice service is an addition to xm. it's a near real time traffic service that feeds info on incidents and backups to the navi system. the car's navi system has to be equipped to handle (and use) that streaming input. Being 'xm ready' like many of the Lexus models isn't the same as being able to handle xmnavtraffic.
latest compatibility chart is here http://www.xmradio.com/navtraffic/get_nav.xmc
you can see Lexus lags a bit on this.
