Default New GS 430 owner initial impressions

Hi guys. I bought a black on black '06 GS 430 today and am very impressed with the car. I previously owned both a 2001 BMW M5 that I used primarily for weekend fun and a 2002 Infiniti I35 that I used for commuting to work. As the father of a two year old and with another on the way, my chances for taking the M5 out for recreational drives had pretty much gone away. Decided to sell both cars and drive something nice to work each day and have just enough performance for a little bit of fun. After one day with the car, I am very impressed with the interior (particularly the Mark Levinson audio) and the performance isn't bad either. I hope to continue to enjoy the car and to learn more about it from all of your posts.

Welcome to the club. Interested in your comment about the ML audio. I have an 06 with ML also, but have not been impressed with it at all...especially for regular FM. CD's sound ok, but highs are bright and bass is boomy (to me). I'm beginning to wonder if something is up with my system after reading the many accolades here.

How is fuel economy with the 430? I've been pretty impressed with that aspect of my GS300.

Again...welcome. Lots of great info here to help you along. Enjoy.

I would have to agree that the sound quality for FM radio is not nearly what it is with CD's, but with CD's the sound in mine is fantastic. The highs seem right on and the bass is crisp. Maybe there could be a problem with your system. Not sure yet about the fuel economy issue. Just got the car yesterday and have only run through about 1/4 of a tank. However, coming from the M5 the GS is sure to seem like a Prius.

OC...welcome to the GEN 3 430 club... it is a sweet ride all the way around...fit/finish is great. Can you provide more info on your new ride...color, options, mileage, etc....just curious. There was a color poll going on and Silver was barely edging out the Matador red.
As far as gas mileage...its actually pretty strong for a V8...I average about 21-22 city mix with hwy and about 23-25 on the hwy...I'm currently at 22.8 on my tank of gas that is about 130 miles a day driving on hwy with a little city. The GS 350 owners tend to get about 25-26 on aver so a little better. Oh and by the way, I will average 80-85 mph on the hwy too.
I'm fairly happy witht he ML sound..it can always be better but for an upgraded stock radio I think its solid. unless you get into other cars that have aftermarket equip you will be happy with it.
POST PICS TOO...

Thanks for the welcome messages guys. It's nice to be part of the 3GS club. Bobbyt01nc, mine is black on black with every option and 18k miles. Perfect condition and certified with the 100k warranty. Very pleased after my first four days with the car. Thanks for the info on the fuel mileage. I'll compare notes as my drive seems similar to yours. I do about 100 miles a day round trip to work and back, mostly highway. I will take some pics and post soon.

I have around 11K and seem to average 18-19 combined MPG.

Guess it might be the lead in my foot

Oi on a V8?

During my break in on the 350, I averaged 24MPG but then I also drive about 65% highway/expressway?

After that so far I'm averaging 21MPG cause I um, have been driving more city?

I filled up the car Mon morning and filled up this morning...I went 384 miles on 17 gal of fuel for aver of 22.5. that was again aver about 80-85 on the hwy.

Izzone, your sig says you have K&N Air intake. which one is it? I just ordered a KN air FILTER but didn't think their was an intake for the 06 gs430 as I didn't see it..at least on www.autoanything.com. I know several gs350's have the typhoon intake but not sure what you have...can you elaborate?
