Fuel pump runs while ignition in ACC position
Hi,
Lately I've been leaving my ignition in ACC (not ON) position to either listen to the radio or run my laptop while it's plugged-in. But, the fuel pump will run the entire time. I always thought that wasn't right. Now, after a couple of months doing this, I started smelling gas from the rear of the vehicle. Great! I suspected that the fuel pump was needlessly pressurizing the lines and now I have a leak. So, I'm just checking with you all. Should the fuel pump be running continuously while in ACC mode??? Maybe I have another problem with a relay or something.
Thanks,
Al

Well that's weird... The fuel pump sound comes from the rear passenger side of the car. So, I was surprised to find the pump access cover under the seat on the driver's side. Then, I turned the ignition key to ACC to listen again. I was even expecting the sound to be louder with the seat and access cover removed, but strangely the sound still emminated from the passenger rear wheel side. Can anyone explain this phenomena?
Anyway, about the alleged gas leak due to the strong smell of gas... when I smelled the gas yesterday, the smell was coming from the right rear of the car. But, the line from the pump runs up the left side to the engine. And, the dust around the pump area and where the fuel line connects was undisturbed, so there was no indication of a leak. What could make a gas smell come from the right rear of the vehicle? Some other breather tube or something??? And there was no smell of gas coming from the engine compartment when I stuck my nose under the hood.

Ok, nevermind, I'm following the gas smell threads now. Could be the breather tube or gas rollover/cutoff valve.
BUT, I still have my original question: Is it normal for the fuel pump to run the entire time that the ignition is in the ACC position?
