Steering rack sounds like it has ABS
So my GS has an interesting power steering issue. When the car is cold, the power steering works perfectly at idle. When it warms up, the power steering basically stops functioning at idle but comes right back as soon as the revs reach 1k.
Today I replaced the serpentine belt and extracted as much fluid as I could with a syringe from the PS reservoir, added new fluid (it's all Dexron, no mixing occured) and with the wheels off the ground and the engine off turned them lock to lock dozens of times. Then I'd suck a little more fluid out, add some new stuff, turn the wheels, repeat.
It's improved a little bit. Instead of no power steering whatsoever, it's partially working at idle but makes this clicking noise that I can feel in the wheel. It feels exactly like ABS does through the brake pedal. Under load or at the locks it clicks. Add a tiny bit of throttle to get to 1k rpm and it's fine.
Some slight signs of leakage from the pump itself but I'm not sure if that was just me spilling fluid everywhere. Other than that, the pump makes no noise, moans, whines, anything.
Plugged filter screen in the reservoir maybe? How do I get that out? Still air in the system and needs more bleeding?
Thanks in advance.
