IS300 HPS air intake pipe on GS300
So I was getting annoyed at my lame Amazon short ram intake. The pipe never sat right and always rattled in the engine bay. The metal SRI also gets extremely hot under the hood so I wanted to find a new way to get a little more air flow with out having to run a SRI. I found this HPS Silicon intake tube on eBay for $120 and I thought it would be a great idea to run that on my GS. Only issue was that the HPS pipe was made for the IS300 and I was unsure if it would work. I decided to buy it anyway and throw it on my GS. It wasn't a direct fit however. Trimming of the intake is required and because of the huge diameter of the HPS pipe, i had to use a silicon pipe adapter to help secure the pipe to the OEM intake box. Really easy install.
HPS vs. Amazon SRI (HPS has a much wider diameter over the SRI and stock pipe).
vs. Stock (Notice the ridged baffles and the resonator in the stock tube).
The silicon adapters I had to use to fit over the oem air box. (Note, I show two inserted, I only had to use one.
Installed. (I liked the black look, looks pretty OEM.)
Overall, I'm happy with it. My throttle lag from the Short Ram is now gone and the car is much faster off the line. Throttle also feels a tad more responsive when passing on the freeway(70-85mph bursts). I do however miss the sound of a cone filter induction. The HPS intake still gives plenty of sound, but nothing like a short ram. More like a loud hum.
