Starter Replacement Problem (98 GS400)
So I gave this beast of a job a shot.
I got the starter replaced and tightened, put everything back together, then tried to start it and just got a dreadful high pitched noise zip noise of the starter turning only itself.
I'm sure the starter isn't meshed with the flywheel, but my question is can you get it meshed without taking the whole damned thing apart again? Anybody know any tips or tricks to get it going?
If I'm stuck with another manifold removal, what can i do to prevent from ending up with the same problem? I tried the advice in the various starter replacement threads (tighten tap tighten, support the starter, etc) but still ended up with missing the flywheel somhow.
I have a video of the noise, but I don't have enough posts to post it in this thread.
Thanks for the help (or bad news) in advance!

Did you rebuild the old starter or is this a OEM or an aftermarket?
Either way you will need to verify the starter is seated properly, if it is, I would look at another starter...
I would also bench test the starter to make sure the pinion gear is extending.
Good luck
