Can I change steering wheel/airbag assembly 1999 to 2000 GS300?
I had searched the forum to no avail on this. I have both a 2000 and 1999 GS300, and I want to swap the steering wheels. I pulled the airbags and they fit into the wheels with slightly different fittings, so that I have to change the airbag with the steering wheel. The difference is that one bag had a round metal can on the back of it, while the other one has a square can with rounded corners. They both have a single yellow plug with two wires, the wires are the same colors on each bag.
I also plugged the 1999 bag into the 2000's plug and switched on the ignition and the airbag light went through the check cycle and turned off as usual.
My question is whether there is any possibility of the cars having different voltages or amperages to detonate the bags or whether there are any other possible differences.
Thanks for any ideas!

The major difference that determines whether the bag will or will not work (that I'm aware of) is single-stage vs. two-stage air bags. A single-stage air bag will not plug into a two-stage plug and vice versa. I think if it plugs in and the air bag light isn't on, you're fine.

I have both a 1999 and a 2000 and swapped the interior around so yes I know for a fact it can be switched around. I'm not familiar with the single or two stage airbags so don't know if you will run into the problems mveale is talking about. hope my post helps

This is all great information and I really appreciate members taking the time to answer my question. I will go ahead with the steering wheel switch with peace of mind.
Thanks again!
