GS300 brake replacement and rear brakes "scraping" noise
My 2000 GS300 was in dire need of new brakes and I found the time this week replace the rotors and pads. I have attached pics of the badly rusted front rotors and a pad for wear and a picture after I replaced the rotors and pads and painted the rotors black to prevent future rusting.
Anyways, my question is about the rear calipers and pads. Not shown, I also replaced both rear rotors and new pads. I've down plenty of brake work in the past and I quickly figured out the pin and clip system used on the rear pads. Once installed, I went out for a slow drive to seat the pads and from the minute I started rolling, the rear pads were making a very noticeable "scraping" sound. I seriously questioned myself as to if I had accidentally installed one of the pads reversed so that the backing plate was touching the brand new rotor...(I didn't).
For those of you who have replaced the rear pads and rotors at the same time, did your GS make a loud scrape noise? It goes away the faster I drive and I think the pads and rotors just need to wear to each other, but I wanted to make sure.

Maybe check the parking brake too?

Nice find lostape45. I bet you that's what it is because it sounds way louder than just pads riding on the rotors. I too have a dremel tool so I'll grind away a little bit and see if that fixes it.

That was exactly the issue. I attached several pictures of the rotor and the backing plate where the rotor was rubbing. After hitting both sides with my Dremel tool, they worked perfectly and no more grinding noises. Thank you for the thread and advice...worked like a charm

Yep! that was the issue which solved my problem. It's hard to believe though that OEM rotors would have the same issue. Can't imagine the dealer would have to do all that to change rotors. SMH
