Factor in which has the lowest negotiable price, the one looked after more and how you feel when you test drive them. Decision is yours at the end of the day...good luck!

Second on prices. However, it seems the logical choice would be the first with a new engine and tranny and better interior.

Yeah, pricing is a must.

I don't know that I agree. I think I would go with the second option. The fact that the 2001 had a new engine/transmission would lead me to more questions. The 2002 ran and felt great according to the driver. Interior issues are minor. You can get those repaired with minimal cost compared to the car being mechanically sound.

Just my .02.

I agree, try to always avoid buying a car that had an engine swap because its VERY rare for this engine to ever go bad UNLESS its abused which in that case you can almost assume something else was negelcted which will need replacement soon as well.

I'm with the two guys above me. I'd rather not have the engine and trans replaced. Who knows who did the work on it.

Not to mention these cars' engines and transmissions are known to be extremely reliable and one failing before 100k miles makes me question what went wrong. Could've ran out of oil, who knows. I'd be weary of how the previous owner treated it.

The first thing that came to mind for me was electrical issues. Maybe it was involved in a flood and the engine/transmission was a band aid.

How about take the total price you figure you'll spend buy and then make one of these cars right; then take that figure and see what's out there in a newer, better (GS400/430?) car. Unless the goal is to heavily mod.
