Based on what I've read, it's not a simple task to make the factory sub work with an aftermarket radio (if it's even possible). Search for threads on amplifier bypass and installing an aftermarket head unit and there should be some info there.

Also, where are you getting $1000 to install a new sub? A small sub and amp can be had for $100-200, then you'll just need a box and wiring. Or you could find a sub that will do free-air, mount it in the factory location, and save yourself the cost of the box.

Even if you paid a shop to install, you should be able to have a small sub that will dramatically outperform the stock one for about $500 installed.

Yea a small amp and sub for $100-$200 would be shat.

You should be able to unplug the factory woofer, use those 2 wires and hook them up to a hi/lo converter (it converts the wires to RCA's, then from there you can connect it to any sub amp. The signal output of those wires from the factory amp will be very low, so you wont get the full potential of whatever you put in, you can get some sort of processor to boost the signal between the converter and the sub amp in order for your new components to sound great.

You must do a search on this, there are PLENTY of ways people are doing this. Just search "swapping stock sub"
