I have a 1998 GS300 non shiftable trans w/ engine that will be reaching its end soon. I also have a spare motor and shiftable trans from a 2001.. would like to swap the 01 motor with shiftable trans.. Is this a hard process since my 01 has a shiftable trans going into a non shiftable trans vehicle? Or will this just be a plug and play process?

You're determined to use that steering wheel, eh? The mechanical bits are all the same, the difference lies in the electronics. If you use an '01+ ECU, clock spring, and gauge cluster in addition to running additional wires to the ECU for the buttons, you could successfully retrofit the feature.
